Gone are the days of containing information within the business. Anything that is known by anyone can now become everyone's morning news byte. More and more our communication is via abbreviated methods - quick emails or text. We need to hone our sending skills to share the intended message and our receiving skills to accurately decipher the intended message. This session provides strategies for successful business communications in the transparent age.

Specific learning objectives for attendees:

  • Understanding business communication styles
  • Know why inflexion matters in the written word
  • Determining the receiver's perspective to the subject matter
  • Recognizing five barriers to effective business communication

About Joyce: Joyce Chastain has many years of senior-level human resources experience in the private sector environment. As a human resources consultant, she specializes in talent development, employee relations, internal investigations, employment law compliance, and affirmative action plans. She is a frequent guest speaker for professional associations and academia covering a wide array of human resources topics.

Ms. Chastain holds a Business Administration degree from Emmanuel College; was awarded Senior Professional in Human Resources Certification Institute; was recently awarded the SHRM-SCP designation and holds an Advanced Certificate in Internal Investigations.

She has served on the board of the HR Florida State Council since 2007 and currently serves as Immediate Past President.

Ms. Chastain has been named as one of the "Twenty-five Women You Should Know in Tallahassee" and was honored with the designation of the Florida Human Resources Professional of the Year. She has also been featured by the Florida Trend Magazine as a Trendsetter in Human Resources.
